It’s really exciting when restaurants and bars open up and share their menu favorites. You often get a professional recipe that’s thoroughly tested, fine tuned and seamless. The result you already know is good. As a home cook, you learn a lot from this, so we’re all for recipe sharing. It is probably a clever marketing strategy by the sharer as well.
When smak.no last Thursday wrote a profile on “Norway’s greenest cocktail bar” Torgata Botaniske in Oslo, it featured the recipe of their signature cocktail Miss Basil. Gin was once more in the house a few hours later.

The recipe calls for one handfull of basil. That’s a bit imprecise, so you just have to try and adjust. We used 8 gigantic basil leaves and thought that worked great.
Simple sirup is easily made by brining equal amounts of sugar and water to a boil, let simmer for 2 minutes, and cool. Keep in fridge for several weeks.
Ingredients
8 gigantic basil leaves
8 cl gin
6 cl freshly squeezed lemon juice
4 cl simple sirup
1 egg white
Instructions
- Grind the basil leaves thoroughly together with an ice cube.
- Put all ingredients with lots of ice in a coctail shaker and shake vigorously for 20-30 seconds.
- Strain in two cocktail glasses and put a basil leaf on top of each.
